Bicycles and dogs are currently not allowed within Crescent Park, but one councilor is suggesting that be reconsidered.

Councilor Chris Warren has put forward the motion to change the law and remove the signs from around the park.

Warren said he's hoping to open up the communication lines between the city and the residents.

"We thought that with council administration, that it would be a good idea to have the public discussion just to really do just that. To get feedback to the community, and see where people are at in terms of allowing this type of thing to take place. If the park community is loud and clear that they want this then hopefully it goes through. And vise versa, if our community is loud and clear that this is something that we want to protect and preserve and not allow dogs and bicycles in the park, that's where we end up as well. I just thought it would be a good opportunity to get the feedback in terms of public discussion."

Warren said he understands the concerns surrounding both dogs and bicycles, though people are generally respectful.

"People are very respectful of others in terms of getting over to the side. As well as cleaning up after their dogs. Again most pet owners are responsible and they're cleaning after their dogs as well. Generally people are respectful of others and look after themselves as well as their pets."

The notice of motion has been served, meaning the next step is for the issue to be brought forward to city council. Typically, said Warren, a motion is addressed 2 weeks after it's been served, but he's asked that council move the topic of discussion to September 9th.

"Anybody has the opportunity if they're interested, to come to council and speak to the issue as well. Both for and against, obviously wanting to hear all sides of the issue."
