A lack of water this spring has outdoor enthusiast optimistic about the mosquito situation. So far, they haven't been a problem, mainly due to the dry conditions but that could change if we get a good dump of rain.

City Parks Gardener Sarah Regent says we might get away with a decent summer.

"All of the forecasts are pointing to a drier, hotter summer than normal so we should be looking at below average for the mosquito population."

Residents are reminded to help in the fight against mosquitoes by keeping a tidy yard so water doesn't have a chance to pool, creating in a breeding ground.

Regent is also working on keeping an eye on other critters in the city that take to the trees. She's asking anyone that sees some potential problems with either tent caterpillars or canker worms to give the city a call as they can quickly get out of control.
