Christmas came early for the staff and students at Central Collegiate High school, as last Friday they were handed a cheque to put towards an ongoing project.

The money came from Mosaic Potach Belle Plaine, as each year employees pick organizations and non-profit groups to donate to.

"(At work) we were able to nominate some organizations who could have a chance to receive a $5,000 grant and the employees at Mosaic Potash Belle Plaine vote," explained Jill Mckee, from Mosaic. "It just so happens that the employees voted and Central was one of the winners to receive that grant money."

The local high school is currently pushing to raise $120,000 to revamp their deteriorated gymnasium floor and stage.

"I think we are right around $40,000 right now," said Vice-Principal Lonny Holmes. "Prairie South School Division also has a matching grant that we're going to apply for. I think the total cost of the project, including gym floor, stage renewal, lighting and sound, is probably around $240,000."

Holmes noted that they're trying to utilize their current space in every way possible until the renovations can be completed.
