Saskatchewan hunters are submitting more heads for chronic wasting disease testing, but according to Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation , more will be needed this year to get a clearer picture of the spread of the disease.

Around 700 hunters submitted harvested samples in 2017, up from around 400 in 2016, but much more will be needed moving forward to get ay good understanding of the prevalence of the disease.

The disease is fatal and affects the nervous system of deer, elk, and in some cases, moose.
