A Moose Jaw group has been organized to start welcoming Syrian refugees to the Friendly City, if and when that starts to happen.

Ottawa is still working out the details but has asked potential communities to start preparing for the arrival of 25,000 refugees between now and the end of February.

The Moose Jaw Syrian Resettlement Committee met for the first time this week and includes a number of local businesses and organizations like the Emergency Measures Organization, City Hall, 15 Wing, the Red Cross and the Moose Jaw Police and Fire Departments.

More meetings are being planned but it's still not clear how many refugees will actually be settled in Moose Jaw.
