The Moose Jaw Police Service has been called to conduct an independent external investigation following an in-custody death at the Sandy Bay RCMP detachment.

According to a statement from the RCMP, an adult female was found unresponsive over the weekend after being taken into custody in relation to an ongoing investigation.

Two Sandy Bay RCMP officers attempted to perform life-saving measures on the individual before calling the Sandy Bay Health Clinic EMS to assist.  Their efforts were unsuccessful.

  • Saskatchewan RCMP has also requested the Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice and Attorney General appoint a second independent investigation observer of First Nation ancestry in accordance with the Saskatchewan Police Amendment Act, 2020.
