Even in the midst of the global Covid-19 pandemic, the Moose Jaw Humane Society continues to bring a spark of joy into the lives of families all over the city.

While they are still inviting families to come and visit the shelter, some changes have been made in the way they are operating. Executive director, Dana Haukaas explains :

"We are continuing to do our adoptions and bookstores by appointment. Just because our shelter is so small, in order to keep six feet of distance between yourself and those who don't live in your household, we do have to limit the number of people in the shelter."

Haukaas says that one benefit of restricting the number of visitors to the shelter is a decrease in stress and overexcitement among the rescue pets.

"As much as [the animals] like to see the people visiting them, it does cause them some anxiety and we have noticed quite the reduction in the amount of stress for the animals."

Despite the challenges of the past couple of months, Haukaas is happy to report that they are still recording plenty of successful adoptions, with the feedback from the new families being very positive.

In addition, Haukaas reports that there are still a few tickets left for the 4Paws Lottery.

"We are just winding up the sales here for our 4Paws Lottery. We do have a limited number of 1 for $20 and 3 for $50 tickets left. There's still a few of the 5 for $75 left but if you want some of those lower dollar tickets, it's important that you give us a call as soon as you can."

The Humane Society is also celebrating having reached 6th place in the ResQWalk leaderboard. You can help out simply by downloading the ResQWalk app, choose the Moose Jaw Humane Society as your preferred charity, and then recording the steps you take while walking with your own pets or family.
