After taking a bit of a hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Moose Jaw Exhibition Grounds will once again be buzzing with activity.

Other than hosting vaccine clinics, the exhibition grounds have been fairly quiet as the province made its way through the pandemic.

Everything kicked off this past weekend with the Saskatchewan Reined Cow Horse Association show, and Moose Jaw will host the Saskatchewan Cutting Horse Association show from July 31 to Aug. 1.

CEO of the Moose Jaw Exhibition Company George Fowler says they are excited to be able to host events again.

“We're looking forward to getting back into our routine. Overall, we made it through COVID. We kept our staff working did a lot of repairs and painting and. We’re ready to go,” Fowler said.

The Saskatchewan Miniature Horse Association’s show is always a popular event and it will be back on Aug. 7 and 8, followed by the Saskatchewan Barrel Racing provincial finals from Aug. 15-19 and the Regina District Dressage Association Provincial Finals right after that.

The exhibition company is also excited to be hosting the Aurora Wind Feeds/Buckeye Nutrition Barrel Futurity, Derby & Slot Race from Sept. 3-6. It is one of the biggest barrel racing events of the year.

“It’s big prize money next to the Calgary Stampede. Its biggest prize money out there and it will be on the 3rd of September through the 6th of September, bringing in some of the best riders in North America,” Fowler said.

Fowler noted that the Saskatchewan Burrowing Owl Interpretative Centre is also back open to the public. It is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays to Mondays and closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
