The Moose Jaw Chamber of Commerce has a new president.

Kylie Sonmer is from Kindersley but has lived in Moose Jaw for nine years now, and has been part of the Chamber board for about 5 years.

Sonmer is a commercial accounts manager here in Moose Jaw and says his job primarily consists of helping businesses with their lending, and day-to-day needs. It very much coincides with his role in the Chamber and helps him learn more about the different businesses in our community.

He says realizes he's being elected during an uncertain time.

"I know that it's going to be an important year for a lot of the businesses to try to get started and continue on, and our goal is not to lose any businesses in our market. I know that could be a hard goal, but we're going to support them any way they need and we will be focusing on restarting the economy in Moose Jaw."

The Chamber has held a number of workshops, thinktanks, and programs over the last few months, giving local businesses the best chance possible at getting through the ongoing pandemic.

"In previous years you'd hear a lot of people say 'Well what does the Chamber do for me, why would I want to be a part of it?', and I think during this pandemic, Rob [Clark] and Heather [Bergdahl] have done a great job at showing what we're here for, and the kind of support and exposure we can give our members. I just want to keep that running."

Sonmer added that if there are any businesses in the community who need any kind of help, that himself, Rob, Heather, and the Chamber are always there to do whatever they can to assist.
