The recent eruption of Mount Agung in Bali, Indonesia left over 400 Canadians stranded on the island, which included Moose Jaw's own Megan Hetherington.

Hetherington had arrived in Bali this past September to backpack the area but, like many others, was trapped on the island after the eruption of the volcano that had been dormant for 54 years. She even had a close-up experience with the volcano.

"I did hike that volcano back in September," said Hetherington. "It's kind of cool to think that, you know, a few months ago I hiked a volcano that's erupted three times this week."

The international airport in the area has reopened but her flight won't be able to leave until Tuesday.

Hetherigton and many other Canadians are safe, as the hostel she is staying at is over a 5-hour drive from Mount Agung.

"We're down in the south here, I mean, we don't really have anything for much concern except for just the ash clouds and stuff. The hostels they've been really accommodating with everything," said Hetherington. "Giving us like discounts and everything and if we need to use the phone they let us and they do a lot of providing us extra water or face masks if we need them just because of the air quality and everything."
