Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe said that there is a need to have a broader discussion about crime in the province.

Moe said that there should be more supports put in place to stop a crime before it has been committed, rather than waiting until afterwards.

While expressing his views on the matter, Moe said that prisons are still a crucial part of our correctional system.

"We need to ensure that those that are committing the crime are being incarcerated from time to time, there are instances where there are individuals that need supports, families that need support to ensure that they aren't committing those crimes, but in the case when the crimes are being committed, they need to be doing the time, so to speak."

On the topic of crime in Saskatchewan, Moe said that the conversation that was needed around criminality and the justice system also encompassed the debated topic of the Terri-Lynne McClintic prison transfer.

Moe said he understands the scenario that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in with the controversy surrounding the Terri-Lynne McClintic transfer but still thinks something should be done.

"Well they do have some parameters that they need to work within, but they need to act on this as well, you know, with respect to, you know we have a broader conversation with respect to crime, and rural crime most notably."
