On Tuesday some people had their eyes to the sky as a larger than normal plane was flying over the Friendly City.

The plane was from a base in Ontario and it occasionally stops at 15 Wing for educational and networking purposes.

Captain Jennifer Howell, for 8 Wing Public Affairs in Trenton, said the plane passing over Moose Jaw and landing at 15 Wing is normal, but what they found, or rather, didn't find after the landing wasn't.

"The crew was doing their checks and noticed a one meter piece of metal fairing that is located behind the engines was missing. The aircraft has four engines and the metal fairing is cone shaped and is located behind the engine. The exact location of that piece is still unknown, but all indications seem to indicate that it fell off before the final moments of landing in Moose Jaw."

"Royal Canadian Air force crews are highly trained - this piece does not affect the overall performance and safety of the aircraft. However, it will remain on the ground in Moose Jaw until a flight safety investigation is complete and they repair the aircraft. Of course we would love to find the piece, however, when things fall from an aircraft from the air it's not always possible."

Capt. Howell added that they aren't certain if the piece is somewhere around the Friendly City.

As the CC177 Globe Master is at a stand still, various people have been sent to Moose Jaw to either fix the aircraft or to continue with the investigation.

"They're checking to see if there's a reason why it detached. Maintenance crews were actually flown out to repair the aircraft so that it can continue missions for the Canadian Air Force."

She said the crew that maintains the plane arrived almost immediately and they were on ground by Wednesday to start the inspection and repairs.

They hope to have the plane up and running soon, so that it can continue on with the next assignment.
