Minimum wage earners on the prairies will see their next pay cheque increase but for those in Saskatchewan, you might not even notice.

October 1st marks changes to Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba minimum wage levels. Alberta will jump from $13.60 per hour to $15 while Manitoba will go from $11.10 to $11.35. Meanwhile, Saskatchewan will only see a ten cent increase to $11.06 per hour, giving us the second lowest minimum wage in the country above Nova Scotia at $11.

Moose Jaw and District Chamber of Commerce CEO Rob Clark says the increase is a necessary evil.

"It has to happen for the employees and for the employers, over the course of the year it might add up to a few dollars," said Clark. "Hopefully they get creative and keep their employees but one thing we do not want to happen is to lose employees over a ten cent increase."

While Clark says some businesses might struggle with any increase to minimum wage, the latest change might not be enough for those who are truly struggling.

"It's still challenging for a lot of people out there and a lot of families. I think the increase of the cost of living is far superior than the ten cents."
