It took hearing the news straight from her label for it to sink in that she was nominated for a Juno award.

Mortlach's Megan Nash put her "blood, sweat and tears" into Seeker, the very album she was nominated for in the Contemporary Roots category.

"I was having coffee with my mom and then I saw a message on my phone from an artist from Alberta that I played a show with a few years ago and he said 'oh wow, you're a Juno nominee,' and I thought 'I don't know what he's talking about'," explained Nash. "I kind of disregarded the message and I got back to the conversation with my mom, and then the record label texted me and said 'hey, are you sitting down?'"

Nash admitted that she's connected to this album in so many ways, from telling family stories, having friends and family sing or play instruments on the tracks, along with paying tribute to her late grandfather in one song.

"There's a lot of me, there's a lot of my friendships, my friends are on the album, my sister's on the album. My grandma Joan, she told me a story and I recorded it about how she and my grandpa met and that's on the album, so it's very, very personal to me. It's amazing that it's getting some national recognition."

Despite traveling to Europe various times on tour and playing shows across the country, the Mortlach native pays a lot of gratitude to her fan base in Mortlach as well as Moose Jaw. She added that she believes it's the support that she gets from the prairies that has helped her to elevate her career to new heights with each given year.

"I wanted to stay based in Saskatchewan, I grew up here. I love being out in the country, I love being out in the countryside, it's just really important to me that I maintain my rural roots while pursuing this career."

When Nash began her career striving to make in the Country music world, she was told to move to Nashville. Time had passed and her sound developed, which then had people instructing her to get to Toronto, but Nash said her heart stays here.

It's unclear whether Nash will be making the trip to the Junos with family or friends in March, saying if she makes the journey she'll be missing her parents' birthdays, but she said the thought of gifting them plane tickets to come along has also crossed her mind.

The Juno Awards are coming up in March in London, Ontario.
