Are you ready to pick out next city councillor? Advanced voting has already started for the October 17th by-election but many are still trying to choose.

Doug Blanc would like to be one of the 7 around the big desk at the end of the month and is out next feature for Meet the Candidates.

We've asked each candidate three questions and will present their responses this week. First, is about the Downtown Facility and Fieldhouse investigation that resulted in sanctions against three current councillors. We asked what needs to happen in order to get the two facilities out from under the negative cloud.

"They need to work with the staff to repair moral, so once that's all done then information for the public has to be made as quickly as possible. There has to be openness, you cant have this shroud of secrecy. Certainly harassment complaints, whether their sexual or not, maybe you cant release all the details but they have to be dealt with".

What is the biggest challenge the city faces and how do you plan to address it, if elected? Blanc is worried about proper planning.

"Cant have blinders on and say 'Well we're going to fix something today and we know that this will need repair in the future, but we'll worry about it then'. If you deal with the infrastructure and citizens start to see repair that's going to eliminate some of the negativity that's in the city".

Infrastructure and how to pay for it have been a major concern for years. Do you raise taxes or borrow money? Blanc says he wants fiscal responsibility, no matter how we pay for it;

"You know you hear rumours about the city wasting money; a good example is they had a poll that cost $10,000 on the garbage – and they didn't listen to it anyways until there was such an outcry. Why spend $10,000 if you're not going to follow what the poll said. You have to make sure that our current budget is being utilized and being spent properly".

Blanc is running against Heather Eby, Mike Bachiu and Steven White in the race for one open seat on council October 17th.
