Local lawyer Tim McLeod will be the Saskatchewan Party candidate for Moose Jaw North in the next provincial election.

McLeod is well known in many circles as a lawyer and the chair of the Prairie South School Division. He was officially acclaimed Monday at the party’s nomination meeting.

“It’s very exciting and flattering,” said McLeod. “I’m excited to be the candidate and moving forward I’m going to hit people’s doorsteps and knock on their doors and introduce myself and hopefully hear what they have to say and what they’d like to see out of their representative.”

McLeod hopes to replace retiring Warren Michelson’s seat in the legislature. Michelson has been a member of the legislative assembly since 2007 for Moose Jaw North.

“Right now, I just want to introduce myself as a candidate and hear from the people,” said McLeod. “My background has always been as an advocate to advocate for other people’s interests and not my own, so that’s my primary interest right now.”

Shortly after moving to Moose Jaw, the Martensville product met Michelson, who invited him to a constituency board meeting.

“They’re a fantastic group of individuals, and I’ve sat on the board in various roles over the last number of years,” McLeod said.

Michelson, who was present at the meeting, is happy with the choice of McLeod as the nominee.

“I don’t think if I went through the whole constituency, I could find someone who would be more passionate about taking over and fulfilling the position as the candidate for Moose Jaw North,” Michelson said.

The election is scheduled for fall, 2020.
