Mayor Deb Higgins cleared up a few questions regarding how last week's federal budget will impact Moose Jaw in 2016.

"We are trying to get some details on how the money is going to be rolled out and when there can be applications go in for it or how the application process will work" said Higgins. "When you look at the numbers and you hear people talking about the numbers, I think it's 11.9 billion dollars over the next four or five years. But four billion dollars that is rolling out this year and that's a pretty tight timeline."

Higgins added that the number may seem big now but once it starts being handed out it dissolves very fast.

"It sounds huge but when you start dividing that right across the country all the provinces and territories, and you think of all the cities that may able to apply for it. It gets spread out quite thin, quite quickly but it's still better then what we've had in the last little while. So, of course we have a couple projects that would fit in the categories that the Federal Government has assigned."

She noted the Federal Government recommended a few things such as housing and transit but one more category Higgins said was something they've been planning and are ready to begin.

"Water and waste water are two areas that have been highlighted by the Federal Government as important areas for funding and we're looking at the water side. In particular we've got a couple big projects out at the Buffalo Pound water treatment plant and of course the transmission line that brings the water from the treatment plant to the city of Moose Jaw, that's something that's been on our books for awhile."

The mayor said roads would not be covered by the Federal Budget but the city has increased the yearly budget to 4 million dollars for repaving the city's streets.
