The book is now closed on another by-election in the city of Moose Jaw.

Wednesday night saw two successful candidates chosen to take open seats, Heather Eby who was re-elected for city council, and Christine Boyzcuk who was appointed as the trustee for the Holy Trinity Catholic School Division board.

Mayor Fraser Tolmie said he's happy for Eby and knows that she brings experience and many connections to various people and organizations within the city.

"She brings experience, you know she is someone who is very community oriented and is passionate about the community. She cares about this city and that's the number one thing, so congratulations to her," explained Tolmie.

One thing the newest councilor said she's excited to tackle is some issues that were tabled during the summer, which Tolmie replied was for a number of reasons.

"The democratic process is not always easy, and we've talked about this in the past. It's challenging. We're always trying to move the needle forward here or move the ball forward for the community, and make the decisions best that sit with our conscience. We've got six different councilors including the Mayor, so seven, and sometimes it's challenging and sometimes it challenging to come up with a consensus."

Once again there were lower than expected numbers when it came to ballots that were filled out and submitted by residents. Mayor Tolmie said they're always hopeful residents will use the opportunity to vote and isn't sure why we didn't see a better turnout.

"You always hope that people will be coming out to vote, you do want to see the numbers up there, you want to see people engaged and voting. I don't know if that would change the results, I don't know if there's maybe no issues within the community."

With both advanced polls and by-election day, just over 3,100 people cast a ballot in Moose Jaw for the 2018 by-election.
