It's been a big story lately, and now we are getting reaction from our mayor. The Syrian refugee situation was recently addressed at a federal level as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that 10,000 refugees will come into Canada by the end of the year.

Locally, the Moose Jaw Syrian Resettlement Committee met for the first time this week, to work towards settling the refugees safely, efficiently and compassionately.

Moose Jaw Mayor Deb Higgins says that it's great to see how Moose Javians have looked for ways to help.

"I know the people of Moose Jaw have got behind this. It's amazing to see the comments on Facebook with the I Will Help Moose Jaw page. It's a great community and people are getting behind it."

Higgins adds that the Federal Government will work with the Emergency Measures Organization after the great work they had done earlier this summer with the forest fires and making sure that everyone was taken care of.
