It's not exactly a list you want to be on the top of, and Mayor Fraser Tolmie is not pleased with the news this week that High Street West is currently at the top of the list for CAA's worst roads in Saskatchewan.

Monday night we learned that there was no fixed plan for repaving the stretch of road that was subjected to cast iron replacement last year. Tolmie says he's pressed for answers since then but hasn't learned much more, although he's been told asphalt won't be ready until mid May.

"The asphalt companies aren't open as of yet and ready to pave, but first thing's first what needs to be done is the curb rehabilitation, or fixing the curbs and the sidewalks that were first done, and then the trenched areas need to be compacted down before we go and pave. There's some work to be done before the paving gets started."

The area has been less than desirable for nearly a year now due to cast iron replacement. Issues with the contractor have left the area a rutted, bumpy mess and the City is exploring legal options.  Earlier this week, we told you the City is trying to work with that contractor to get the work done, but many are wondering why the City doesn't just do it and send the contractor a bill.

"I can't really make a comment on that right now, that idea has been floated out in the community and we have to do our due diligence first with the contractor in order to get things prepared and ready for the paving. We will be looking at options."

"This is not a source of pride that the citizens of Moose Jaw want to have, I don't think we want to be a city that says 'Oh look at how bad things are,' we want to be a city that says 'We're getting things done and we need to get things fixed'."
