There is something about the May Long Weekend that seems to invite bad weather. Whether it's cold temperatures, thunderstorms or even snow, May Long is not known for great weather. However, that might change this year according to Regional Meteorologist, John Paul Cragg, with Environment Canada.

"It looks like down in the southeast, at least for Saturday and Sunday, conditions are going to be pretty nice."

"Highs might get to around 18 and 22 on Sunday and that's right around the average high for the southeast for this time of year."

The average for this time is 20.

"By Monday, the temperatures should start to get about the 25-degree mark, we're looking at temperatures anywhere between 25-30 degrees. Now Monday, there is a chance of some showers moving into the southeast but that chance is very low. But other than that small chance of showers, it looks like the weekend will be pretty sunny and pretty warm."

He adds that the winds should hold off except for some possible southerly winds on Sunday but they shouldn't be too strong in the southeast.

"It looks like the winds will be stronger on the west side of the province. You may be looking at winds around 20 km/hr gusting to 40 for the afternoon of Sunday."

He added that the dry conditions should extend into next week.

"There are some risks of thunderstorms in the southeast next week. If there are some thunderstorms in the area, local areas could receive quite a bit of precipitation with those. But generally, it's looking dry through the next week."
