The month of March has been declared Agriculture literacy month and schools are embracing one of Saskatchewan's top industries.

Students across the province will be learning where their food comes from this month.

Lindale elementary school principal, Eric Campbell describes the significance of agriculture education.

"I think it's important for all students to learn about agriculture and learn about what producers so for the community and what they do for not only the community of Moose Jaw but around the world because that's what agriculture is," says Campbell.

Campbell goes on to say that this is definitely something they can sink their teeth into, to help inform students about where their food on their plate comes from.

"I'm just happy that this is something that's coming to the forefront here and it'll be great for Lindale."

The theme this year is technology with a focus on teaching students about development, uses and the importance of innovation on modern farms and ranches.

“There are so many myths and misconceptions about food and agriculture today, it is difficult for people to know what to believe,” Agriculture in the Classroom Executive Director Sara Shymko said.  “The classroom visits with real people working in the industry are so important because they give students a chance to ask questions and have them answered honestly and openly.”
