A recently released Angus Reid poll suggests western provinces don't believe they're being treated fairly by the federal government.

For Saskatchewan in particular, the results of the poll showed 23% agree and 77% disagree that we have a fair federal government.

MP for Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lanigan, Tom Lukiwski, says he thinks he knows why.

"There are many reasons for that. First and foremost, of course, is the unilateral imposition of the carbon tax which is going to effect Saskatchewan residents. The lack of pipelines getting build effects many people in western Canada negatively. Not just not building pipelines, its the cancellation of pipelines like the Northern Gateway and the Energy East."

Lukiwski says if the pipelines were built, the western provinces would make more money on the world market, compared to just selling to the USA, which is what we do now.

Looking at the broader picture, 28% of residents in the western provinces believe they are not treated equally, while 51% of residents in eastern provinces believe they are.

"It doesn't really matter which government is in power, I think a federal government has an obligation to ensure that all provinces within confederation are treated fairly and equally," says Lukiwski, "Whatever programs they espouse they have to make sure that they are dispensed fairly and equally across Canada."

Alberta had the lowest amount of residents who believe their province is treated equally with 17%, while Ontario had the highest with 56%.
