The incumbent for Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lanigan says he's ready for the campaign season.

In fact, Conservative MP Tom Lukiwski says he's been campaigning for a while now.

"It's been underway for several months now," said Lukiwski. "In fact, I've been campaigning for the last four years."

Lukiwski is, by now, a veteran of the political arena in Saskatchewan. He was first elected back in 2004 and says that he's stayed in it for so long to help the people of Saskatchewan.

"One of the things that I tell all prospective candidates is that don't get into this game, don't get into politics if you think you're doing it for your own purpose. Don't get into it if you think you're going to be travelling the world or entering into an elite section of Canada, you're not. You have to get into it for the right reasons, and that is simply to help people. That's what motivates me, knowing that I have the ability and the opportunity to actually help people. There's no greater feeling than that."

Leading up to the October vote, Lukiwski says he'll be "campaigning hard" for the oil and gas sector in Saskatchewan and Alberta.

"I think this is one of the most important elections we've seen in recent history. My fear is with this current government, that they are looking at transitioning out of the oil and gas sector and actually shutting it down. That would be devastating economically to this province, I do not want to see this happen. I'm going to be campaigning hard to make sure that people understand the ramifications of voting Liberal in the next election because it could be devastating economically for this province."

Although only polling around two percent, Lukiwski said the new People's Party of Canada could potentially split the Conservative vote this election, stating that is a concern.

"Any party that enters their name on the ballot has an opportunity to take votes away from any party. We think however that the People's Party is probably going to be in the two to three percent range across Canada. What that means is in very close riding, that two or three percent could make the difference. If in fact, it gets down to the point wherein a close riding, the PPC takes two or three percent, and that defeats the Conservative candidate and elects a Liberal, I don't think there's any member of the People's Party or anybody who supports the PPC would like to see that eventuality."

During his time campaigning so far Lukiwski says he sees people in his riding ready for a change in federal government leadership.

"I think in Saskatchewan, most people understand that we have a federal government currently lead by Justin Trudeau that just frankly does not deserve to be re-elected. I am very, very fearful that if the Liberals win the next election, it's going to be devastating in terms of economic activity in Western Canada, particularly in Saskatchewan and Alberta."
