On Friday, the Chinese New Year officially began.

The Chinese zodiac moves in a 12 year cycle with 2018 being the Year of the Dog. Those born in 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994 and 2006 are under the sign of the dog and are known to be loyal, communicative and responsible in the workplace.

Each animal represents certain personality traits, "You will be loyal and honest with others. Generous yet stubborn and often selfish" Moose Javian, Gale Chow explains, "It's the biggest holiday in China, the whole country is celebrating. Every province celebrates the holiday with large or small events in accordance with their own tradition." 

Those who celebrate the Chinese new year in Moose Jaw gather at local restaurants over the weekend for a lavish 10 course meal.
