Sunday night the curtain will open and one local studio will be grooving to the music to help a local organization.

Dance Images By B.J. hosts a Dance For Hunger Showcase annually in support of the Moose Jaw and District Foodbank.

“We’ve been doing this for almost 15 years and every year the food donation amount is getting bigger and bigger," explained Dance Instruction Shauna Bzdel. "I think our first year we ended up raising 1,300 pounds of food so it's just been growing. I would definitely say we are at about 25,000 pounds of food that we’ve donated over the last 15 years.”

She noted that they continue this tradition each year because it's important to their staff, students and family.

“Our families at the studio are very lucky and we want to teach our kids how fortunate they are because there are a lot of other families out here in our community – we like to think it doesn't happen, but it does – that are going through hard times and they need vital organization to be able to provide basic needs like food for their family.”

Over one hundred youth will take to the stage between the age of 5 and 18 performing in a number of styles for attendees.

“There is a $5 charge and a donation for the food bank. This year we’re really hoping to make this our biggest year so far. Last year we were able to donate almost 3,000 pounds of food. We’re hoping that the community will come on out and support a great evening and we’ll be able to make our biggest donation to the food bank yet,” said Bzdel.

The Dance For Hunger Showcase is open to anyone interested in attending. The performance starts at 6:30 pm at Peacock Collegiate High School.
