Ten students from Moose Jaw and the surrounding area will be receiving $1,000 Saskatchewan Youth Apprentice (SYA) Industry Scholarships.

The scholarships are given to 100 students across the province seeking a career in skilled trades.

The students will receive the scholarship within two years of graduating high school once they have demonstrated they are actively pursuing a career in skilled trades.

Teachers who oversee the Saskatchewan Youth Apprentice programs are able to nominate at least one graduate for the scholarship.

The student must complete the SYA program, which exposes them to skilled trades.

The scholarship recipients are as follows:

  • Ian Cristo of Assiniboia pursuing automotive service technician received the Industry Scholarship
  • Derek Bryan of Central Butte, pursuing agricultural equipment technician, received the EECOL Electric (Jim Senneave) Scholarship.
  • Tyler Bouffard of Kincaid, pursuing carpentry, received the Allan Construction Scholarship.
  • Gregory Empey of Kincaid, pursuing carpentry, received the RNF Ventures Scholarship.
  • Fletcher Starke of Lafleche, pursuing powerline technician, received the EECOL Electric (Jim Senneave) Scholarship. 
  • Jerri Bruce of Moose Jaw (Peacock), pursuing machinist, received the PTW Energy Scholarship.
  • Caleb Kaminsky of Moose Jaw (Cornerstone Christian), pursuing truck and transport mechanic, received the CoJay’s Heavy Truck Scholarship.
  • Julian Allen of Moose Jaw (Vanier), pursuing cook/carpentry, received the Moose Jaw Construction Association Scholarship.
  • Braydon Gardner of Tugaske, pursuing agricultural equipment technician, received the Industry Scholarship.
