A Moose Jaw School has just been nationally recognized for its physical education program.

St. Michael School is in the spotlight and so is its Phys. ed. teacher Malinda Strueby.

Strueby explained more about why the school was recognized.

"Basically our school is being recognized for offering our students Quality Daily Physical Education (QDPE). The leadership team here and the staff members really model that by example and put physical literacy and health literacy at the front of everything we do here."

Every QDPE program includes at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day for all students K-12. QDPE programs also include an emphasis on fun, self-fulfillment, personal health and feature a range of activities suitable for each student. One big focus is on a participation-based intramural program.

Strueby detailed how long she's been following the QDPE model.

"Formally and non-formally really since the start of my career."

Strueby spent 12 years teaching high school and has now been at St. Michaels for two years.
