The Governor General EMS Exemplary Service Award is Canada’s highest honour for those who work in the field, and Chief of the Moose Jaw and District Paramedics, Kyle Sereda, was honoured with it.

Sereda was nominated for the award and ended up winning due to his 21 years of service in the field, as well as his exemplary service in and around the professional duties.

Sereda believes he and previous winners are simply just doing their jobs.

"I do what I love and love what I do. I don't do it for the recognition. Like many others that receive this award, it just becomes part of their belief in what they do."

Sereda goes on to say there are many fantastic workers in their field and he is very appreciative of the award.

"It is a very high honour, I'm very humbled and fortunate to be awarded the medal among a wide variety of people in the profession, specifically EMS."

Sereda didn't originally plan on being a paramedic when he was going to university; however, he chose his profession after his twin brother, who was also a paramedic, passed away.
