Saying this could turn into a very long, drawn out process, Conservative Member of Parliament for Moose Jaw-Lake Centre-Lanigan Tom Lukiwski wasn't surprised by the announcement last week that Saskatchewan has launched a constitutional challenged to Ottawa imposing a carbon tax on the province.

Lukiwski says the province said all along they'd fight it and fight it they are.

"The legal argument is unique and in general terms, I'm certainly in favour and supportive of the Saskatchewan government's position that a carbon tax... is certainly not in the best interest of the province."

Saskatchewan argues that, since not all provinces are being subjected to the same rules, the carbon pricing is unconstitutional. Right now, the province stands along in the fight against Ottawa but some other provinces are taking note of the legal challenge and Lukiwski says, depending on what happens with some upcoming provincial elections, Saskatchewan could gain some allies in the fight.
