The fall session of the 29th legislative assembly kicked off with the Speech from the Throne on Wednesday, but it's back to business for MLAs at the legislative building in Regina.

Locally, Tim McLeod is heading into his second term as the Sask. Party MLA for Moose Jaw North, while Greg Lawrence is now on this third term in the legislature for the Sask. Party.

McLeod outlined what he’s looking forward to during this sitting.

“I'm encouraged to see the light at the end of the COVID tunnel and the work that we've been doing, despite the pandemic that’s really starting to come to fruition, seeing the continued construction of the Great Plains Power Station in Moose Jaw continued to the construction of the Joint Use School on South Hill and some great opportunities for the province that we're working to,” he said.

COVID-19 and the provincial government’s response to the fourth wave is expected to be a hot topic during this sitting.

Premier Scott Moe and his Sask. Party government has come under fire from the NDP Opposition for acting too long as ICUs in the province filled up.

Lawrence gave his take on the government’s response to the pandemic.

“We've followed the plan to get people vaccinated. That's the way out of this pandemic is encouraging people out there to get vaccinated,” he said.

“We're 70 per cent vaccinated and we've got a ways to go yet to make Saskatchewan safe.”
