One local group is celebrating in honour World Breast Feeding Week Saturday as the Moose Jaw Mother's Milk Working Group, who try to make sure the Friendly City has Baby Friendly Spaces, are hosting an event.

Sasha Kendic is a community member with the group, she said that these spaces are to help parents take care of their kids in public.

"Making sure there's a place for moms to sit to either nurse or bottle feed their baby, making sure there's a place to change diapers, and just making sure there's a place in all the local businesses that parent's feel welcomed and not afraid to feed their babies."

There are also guides available online if you want to create a more Baby Friendly Space.

Recently, Creating Our Futures grant, Kendic and her group managed to make the library's in Moose Jaw, Roleau, and Caronport by purchasing comfy and easy to clean chairs to help families feed their baby comfortably in public.

The MJ Mother's Milk Working Group found that libraries were places that parents typically took their kids to often, which is why they chose to purchase the chairs for the libraries.

This past week, the group also held their "150 Places to Eat Local" Facebook photo challenge. Like last year, they asked mothers to send in pictures of themselves breastfeeding their baby in public or at home to be entered for prizes. If you missed the contest, you can still join the group as they are hosting an event at the Public Library, Saturday, Sept. 29th at 2:30 pm.

They will be celebrating Baby Friendly Spaces and World Breast Feeding Week doing some other activities in honour how much progress Moose Jaw has made.

"It's really great to see how much our community has changed and grown," Kendic explained. "I've been part of this community and committee specifically for about two, three years, and just seeing how much the community of Moose Jaw and area has grown and changed I think is the best experience for me."
