Elizabeth Salsman is not only a dancer and gymnast, but she's also an avid volunteer. Every Wednesday for the past year and a half, she's been going to Riverside Mission to help with the lunch there, and for her 9thLocal birthday this year she wanted to do something special, just not for herself.

"I was just thinking one night that they needed money more than we did," Salsman said. "Then I went downstairs, I asked my Mom, could I have money instead of presents."

So, for her birthday, instead of getting new toys or books or clothes, she raised $300 and handed it over to Executive Director Scott Elger at the Mission

"It wasn't all just my friends," Salsman explained who helped her to raise the money. "I was on Facebook and they heard about it so some people started bringing donations, and my Mom put in a bunch of money and my grandmas put in a bunch of money."

Now, she continues to volunteer, and was named a Hometown Hero.
