A lifetime in agriculture is something to be celebrated and honoured, and that is what happened this past weekend as Doug Howe was inducted into the Saskatchewan Agriculture Hall of Fame.

Doug ranches south of Moose Jaw and was brought into the HOF based on his work with livestock.

"At one time we would go out and promote cattle by showing them, you know going to local fairs and going to big shows like Agribition and stuff like that. Now with 15 minutes or half an hour on your cell phone you can put a campaign together and get to tens of thousands of people, where I got to only a few hundred people a season."

Howe reflected on his 50-year career in the industry and made note of how management practices have changed over the years.

"In the performance program and how to select cattle now, you can select them through genetic makeups and through DNA testing, select for different meat qualities, and inheritance ability of certain things. It's unbelievable where it's come."
