A CRA Scam, a couple Microsoft Scams, and a Romance Scam. Saskatchewan has had its fair share of of fraudulent activity to kick off 2018.

On top of scams that directly target people, business scams are fairly common in the province. Unfortunately, only about 5% of people ever report them.

"What we see is that if a business does not have a good process, to make purchases for example, and they can often fall victim to a fake invoice scam or a scam that looks like an email that's come from your boss but it really isn't," said Karen Smith, Chief Executive Officer of the Better Business Bureau of Saskatchewan, explaining how businesses fall prey to scams. "They're using phishing tactics or switching out."

If you're worried something of this nature has happened to you, contact your local law enforcement.

The Better Business Bureau website also has a database for people who have reported fraudulent activity, so you can see what is potentially circling through your community.

Local businesses had an opportunity this week to hear a presentation from Smith and were informed of ways to protect their livelihoods. This event was hosted by the Moose Jaw and District Chamber of Commerce on Thursday.
