Moose Jaw’s Lishelle Maisonneuve (Pretty), 11, represented Saskatchewan at the Canadian Open Virtual Individual Disciplines for baton twirling over the weekend.

Also known as the Maple Leaf Open, this is the second time she’s competed at the national competition, receiving a silver medal for medley in 2018.

This year the event was held via Zoom from July 2 to 4, with Maisonneuve receiving diamond for her medley and gold for her C Solo.

Maisonneuve has been twirling for the past four years with the Sundown Optimist Baton Group, formerly known as the Sundown Optimist Buffalo Gals, out of Regina.

For the past year and a half, she’s been either traveling or taking classes over Zoom. Along with competing, Maisonneuve has also took her badge tests and learned dances for a drive-in recital with Martin School of Dance and Twirl.
