Moose Jaw is hosting the best figure skaters and curlers in Saskatchewan this weekend at Mosaic Place.

The 2022 Skate Canada Saskatchewan Sectional Championship event is underway and continues through Sunday at the arena in Mosaic Place.

The Skate Canada Sectionals provides skaters’ first exposure to competitive stream competition and identifies the top skaters in each province for advancement to the next round of qualifying events – ultimately leading to the Canadian Tire National Skating Championships.  More than 60 skaters from the pre-juvenile category to the senior ranks will compete for a top-three placing in singles, dance, or pairs and a chance to be part of the provincial team that heads to the Skate Canada Challenge Event, December 1st – 5th, 2021 in Regina.

Admission to the competition is free and open to the public.

Mosaic Place is also making the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre home to 20 teams from across the province this weekend for the Women's Saskatchewan Curling Tour, presented by Visit Moose Jaw. The first draw will take place tonight at 5:30 p.m. and run all weekend with the finals at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The tournament boasts an outstanding field of curlers, as several Scotties Provincial Champions, Junior and Senior Provincial Champions as well as Scotties and Senior World Champions make up the draw.

A few teams making an appearance at this year's tour stop include: Chelsea Carey, Robyn Silvernagle, Michelle Englot, Sherry Anderson’s Senior team, and local teams and curlers Lorraine Arguin, Emily Haupstein with former Moose Javian Skylar Ackerman, Sherrilee Orsted with Candace Newkirk along with team Penny Barker.

"Both Of these events are high profile within the province of Saskatchewan," says Ryan McIvor the General Manager at Mosaic Place.

"These events are just another great example of what Mosaic Place does for the community and as an economic driver in terms of these people that are coming in, staying over the weekend 3 or 4 nights providing an economic impact to our hotels, restaurants, and throughout so we're really pleased and excited to host these events and the opportunity to showcase Moose Jaw to these participants."

The Saskatchewan Curling Tour is a professional sporting event, tickets are being sold through SaskTix or buy tickets at the door. Proof of Vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test is required.
