A full week of educational events are taking place throughout the City of Moose Jaw, the Province and the Country.

This week is National Drowning Prevention Week here in Canada and local Lifegaurds are doing their part to share some valuable pieces of education with the public.

John Hepting is a Lifeguard here in Moose Jaw and he outlined where you can find the schedule for events this week.

"Our whole schedule for National Drowning Prevention Week is at moosejaw.ca as well as if you come into our facilities both the Kinsmen and the Phyllis Dewar Outdoor Pool the full schedule is there and I believe the next demonstration is Thursday at 3 o'clock."

Along with all the demonstrations he is reminding everyone about the little things whether you are at a pool or the lake.

"Parents watch your children it takes seconds for someone to go under water especially if your at a lake and if you lose track of your child its very, very easy that you don't see your child again."

Hepting also noted that lifeguarding knowledge could have potentially saved some of his friends lives when he was younger.

"In the developed world drowning is a very high cause of death for young children and even young adults as well predominantly males and I think back to even my teenage years and the amount of times that if there had not been friends that were lifeguards then I might have had friends who perished in the water as well."

Many demonstrations are taking place as earlier in the day on Tuesday they talked about the differences between lifejackets and PFD's then at 3pm they had a Lifeguarding demonstration this is a Photo Gallery from that event.
