With technology continuously improving and evolving, so are many businesses and service providers.

While many may think online services could replace physical books and resources, the Moose Jaw Public Library has been embracing technology, and has been expanding their collection of digital services and databases to better provide options for the residents of Moose Jaw.

"The mandate of libraries is to share information and to share technology and to increase access all for free," said Jessie Marchinko, the Assistant Librarian. "So, you know, supporting vulnerable populations, it all folds really nicely into the mandate of public a library. Libraries should always be on the swivel looking for a new way that they can support their community and its not going to be the same between one community and the next."

The library has recently added many digital learning databases, like lynda.com, Mango Languages, and many other eBooks and audio books. All for the use of Moose Jaw residents.

While these materials are more readily available for people, many might think it would take away people from the library, but in reality, more people are using their resources now, and the amount of physical items being loaned out has only gone down slightly.

Marchinko says that she doesn't see the library becoming any less important as it is, as their huge collection is what attracts people. They also won't stop with gaining more physical items, as online data bases can't always supply everything, and you just can't replace the feeling of a book.

"[The physical collection] is only expanding. Having those books on the shelves, that browse-ability of coming and being able to run your finger down a line of spines on a book shelf," she explained. "For a book lover that is a truly beautiful feeling."
