Saturday is the final day for Sidewalk Days, and while some may see this as an opportunity to get the whole family down to the Main Street fun, it may be in everyone's best interest to leave one of your furry family members at home.

With the heat, the amount of people, and the general excitement of everything going on, leaving your dog at home is one of the best options for everyone.

"[I suggest] definitely to not to take them down to Sidewalk Days that's going to a huge thing. With that many people down there, the temperature is going to feel a lot hotter than it actually is and with the amount of people down there it can also be quite stressful for a dog," explained Jenica Tetrisor, a kennel attendant with the Moose Jaw Humane Society. "[...]We would just say just say for the safety of the animal, the owner, and everyone around definitely don't take your pets out. Keep them at home where they're safe, cool, comfortable."

Even though we're not in a heat warning, plus 30 weather can still be tough for a dog. It depends on the breed, but some animals heat up faster than others, and definitely faster than people do, which could cause heat exhaustion for your animal.

Another trouble the sun and hot weather pose is how much it can heat the pavement. Pets walking around without any type of protection for their paws can burn and blister their pads which in turn can cause an infection.

With everything going on around at Sidewalk Days, the owner may even be distracted from their dog letting them loose by accident or a kid may even sneak up and pet the dog, which most likely wouldn't be a problem, but it can be hard to tell what would happen with all the excitement around.

Sidewalk Days has seen many situations where dogs have caused disturbances, dangerous situations, or be overcome by the heat. Some of the organizers even suggest leaving your pets at home.

Also with the heat wave we saw Friday and not much relief this weekend, it may be the best to give your pet the chance to cool down for the day.
