As the old year ends and we look ahead to 2018, we spent some time with Moose Jaw Wakamow MLA Greg Lawrence. As he looks back on the year what was, he says one of the biggest challenges has come from a decision made outside our province;

"I would say the biggest challenge has been the feds not moving from the legalization of marijuana on July 1, and the provinces all trying to catch up to get their regulations in order for legalization to be viable on July 1."

Another one of the biggest issues the government wrestled with was the drop in revenues from resources. The resulting funding changes in the provincial budget put pressure on the relationship between the province and municipalities. Going forward, Lawrence thinks working together is key. He offered this advice;

"I would say to live within your means as the province is trying to do, and work with the province. It was the toughest budget in a long time when it came to our cities, both on the PST side of things where the PST was down, and with the changes to grants-in-leiu."

The major change for the party however, was the resignation of Brad Wall.

The new Sask Party leader will be selected this month through mail in ballots from party membership and votes from the floor at the convention in Saskatoon January 27th.
