To Special Olympians, members of the Moose Jaw Police Service are pretty cool ... but they're about to be even colder Monday for a fundraiser.

Even with the pandemic, they will be still able to do a slightly modified version of the Law Enforcement Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Saskatchewan. Individuals and teams are submitting videos for the provincial Special Olympics fundraiser, and the Moose Jaw Police Service is once again taking part.

“In years past, we actually filled up a big tub of water, if people recall a few years ago, and had people jumping into that,” said Const. Kyle Cunningham of the Moose Jaw Police Service. “But because of COVID, the plan is on Monday, we’ll have members willing to brave the cold, attend to the station with our backdrop and we’re going to have our … Special O athletes join us, and get us freezing for a reason, if you will.”

If there is snow still around, Cunningham said they may throw some of that on their members, but if not, he said it’ll be buckets of cold water. He said they appreciate the relationship they have and that in normal years, they’d be able to play floor hockey and curling and bocci ball with the athletes.

“But because of COVID this past year, we haven’t been able to meet them in person and have the fun we usually have,” Cunningham said. “We’re everyone’s police and we really value the relationship we have with the athletes here in Moose Jaw.”

They said to keep an eye on the police Facebook page for the splashy results.
