With a variety of illegitimate organizations out there, RCMP spokesperson Heather Russell says it's important to get the facts before parting with your hard earned money.

"I think the RCMP would always recommend that people be careful when giving their personal information. We recommend that you check out any company that you are going to be doing business with. If it is a local company that you know than you probably can be comfortable but if it's a company you have never heard of, you may want to do a little bit of checking before you provide any information to them."

Russell adds that you have the right to ask as many questions as necessary to verify the legitimacy of a business.
