The John Howard Society of Saskatchewan hosted a luncheon on Tuesday to celebrate Restorative Justice Week,

The term 'restorative justice' is an approach that focuses on consequences rather than punishment.

Keynote speaker at the event was Jorgina Sunn, who went through a restorative justice program in her younger years after being involved with gangs as well as substance abuse in her early life.

"I think that the importance and power of building relationships is the foundation of any kind of justice, restorative or not. When we have those relationships, good work can be done."

This is the first event that Sunn has spoken at in over a year but hopes to get back into giving talks more often.

Sunn described what's next for her.

"I've just secured employment at a treatment center and I'll continue to do that just to get the work experience. I like working with people at that grassroots level so I'm at the perfect place right now."
