Good news for the some 17 thousand elm trees that grace the City of Moose Jaw.

City Parks gardener Glen Chernick says Dutch Elm Disease hasn't shown up in Moose Jaw this summer...yet.

"Well, we have surveyed the entire city...front yards and back yards, once and, we have found no evidence of Dutch Elm Disease," Chernick said.

"We are doing another survey now and we expect to finish that up by the end of August.  Hopefully, we'll get lucky again then and not find any suspect trees," Chernick added.

Chernick says 17 diseased elm trees have been destroyed in the buffer zone around Moose Jaw.

And he reminds residents that it is unlawful to prune elm trees until after August 31st.
