Anglers in southern Saskatchewan are being warned to be careful on the ice.  In the last week, there have been a plethora of social media posts showing ice fishing shacks sinking into the ice on Buffalo Pound Lake.

While some areas of the waterway are plenty thick, others spots still have moving water and the recent heat has caused the ice to deteriorate even further. The above picture posted by the Moose Jaw Wildlife Federation shows the shack almost fully sunk into the frozen water.

The general rule of thumb used by most outdoor organizations is an ice thickness of 4 inches for a person to walk on safely, 6 inches for all terrain vehicles, 10 inches for small passenger vehicles and then at least a foot thick for trucks.
