The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced at the beginning of the month that their June 30 home game would be themed 'Humboldt Strong' in support of the Humboldt Broncos, the community, and those affected by the accident that happened two months ago.

Part of the gameday plan today, when the Roughriders host the Montreal Alouettes, will include a video dedication to the Humboldt Broncos and the community of Humboldt, as well as on-field participation by Broncos representatives in the anthem and coin toss ceremonies. The national anthem and halftime entertainment will come courtesy of Shaunavon's Hunter Brothers.

JJ Hunter is one of the five Hunter Brothers and said that to perform at a Roughriders game is a dream come true for them, but to be able to do it in support for the Humboldt Broncos makes it even more special.

“We all know how much its (Humboldt Broncos bus crash) affected our province, our nation, and really sent ripples around the world," he said "So to be part of that and there on June 30 is a real honour for us. It’s an honour on a lot of levels. With the status that the Riders have in our province and around the world, it’s amazing. To partner with them to be part of the anthem and the halftime show, that’s really special for us. The other side of it is being there in support of the Humboldt Broncos. Our hearts are there continually with the families that have been left behind with the loss of their loved ones. To be part of it for supporting them is extremely important and extremely special to us."

Hunter said that the band wants to be able to help and support those affected whenever and however they can.

"The world has to continue on, the rest of life has to continue, jobs have to be worked at, and school have to go on, and hockey league have to continue, and organizations have to move forward. But for those families, that hole is going to remain forever. We've been honoured to be part and be in touch with different families, some of the different players that survived the crash and our hearts are to be with them long-term. Whatever it is we can be part of going forward, in another six months, or another year, or ten years, whatever it is, if we can help in any way, we want to be there."

For the band from Shaunavon, it will be the first time that they have done anything with the Roughriders organization and they are excited to do so as they are lifelong fans of the team.

“First time that we’ve done anything with the Riders, so this is really cool for us. The Riders are such a huge part of our province and a huge part of our nation. This is a special moment for us," he said. "This tragedy has bonded the nation together so to be able to part of it is extremely excited, and we are very thankful that they asked us to be apart of it.”

The Hunter Brothers will be performing three songs at halftime.

All Rider Stores are currently selling commemorative pins, with all proceeds going to the Humboldt Strong Community Fund.
