They have performed all across Canada and the United States, performed for thousands at a Saskatchewan Roughriders game and even had a song used for the 2019 IIHF World Juniors, but the Hunter Brothers were able to accomplish another feat yesterday as they performed the Canadian National Anthem at the home and regular season-opening game for the Toronto Blue Jays.

In front of around 45,000 people at the Rogers Centre and millions watching at home, Shaunavon's Hunter Brothers were the focus as baseball kicked off in Canada with the national anthem.

JJ Hunter, one of the five Hunter Brothers, said that performing at the game was a dream come true.

"It was an incredible dream come true getting the opportunity to do this at the Jays game and the home opener and the regular season opener," he said. "It was a very special honour and a memory that I won't forget. I've been a Blue Jays fan my entire life and just coming to games it was a special experience and to be down on the field during the opening ceremonies is something that I will cherish forever."

Hunter said it is an experience that he thinks none of the brothers including himself will be forgetting.

"It was incredible," he said. "Forty-something-thousand fans and what was neat is the colour guard was there and then also having both teams on the baselines looking at us on each side, the whole experience was something that was very, very special and the atmosphere was great. It will go down in the memory books. It's almost hard to put into words what we had the opportunity to experience today."

Performing at the Toronto Blue Jays game is just one of the many things that the Hunter Brother have been able to be a part of since bursting on the scene in 2016. Hunter says that they've been able to take a moment and take everything in.

"It's something that we actually quite honestly talk about quite often as brothers. The experiences that you get to have and the individuals you get to meet, it's the performances and the different areas that you get to perform in and all these things," he said. "

Life is busy and it's easy to get caught up in what you are doing or the next thing that is on the plate and not soak up and really appreciate just today and what you're experiencing today," he said. "That's something we've challenged ourselves with and talked about and we really try to soak up these experiences and really appreciate them. We don't want to look back someday and say 'Man, There are some cool things but we were worried about this or that.' It's something that we've tried to cherish every step of the way."

Hunter said that without the support of the southwest, the province, and the nation they would never be able to get to do some of the things they could have only dreamed of not too long ago.

"I think the biggest thing is that we just appreciate the support from everybody," he said. "We have lots of messages coming in. Whether it's texts or emails or messages through social media it means so much to have the support and encouragement from our home province, our hometown, and right across the nation. We just want to say thank you to everybody who supported us along the way."

The only downside maybe from the whole day for the Hunter Brothers was that the Toronto Blue Jays lost 2-0 to the Detroit Tigers in extra innings.
