Losing your cat or dog and not being able to find them can be a scary experience for any pet owner.

That's why the Moose Jaw Humane Society will be holding microchip clinics throughout the month of August.

Dana Haukaas, executive director at the humane society, explains how the clinics work.

"We reduced the rate of our microchips from $30 down to $20 for the month of August and we just ask that you call ahead and give us your pet's information and your information so we can have it in our computer before you come and we will microchip your pet," Haukaas said.

She added that all stray animals that come into the shelter are scanned for a microchip so they can be returned to their owner as soon as possible.

"Quite often we will have a cat or a dog come in and we'll know it's familiar to us, but unless you can remember the owners' name or the dog's name to search it in our system it takes us a little while to get it sorted out and get the pet home. Where if they are microchipped we just scan it, we look up the microchip and we have the people's information up right in front of us and we can call right away," Haukaas said.

She said the process is very quick and will give owners a peace of mind if their animal ever does get loose.
