Gas prices could be on the rise in Moose Jaw and the south at any moment now.

The price to buy gas is around $1.18/$1.19 per litre in Moose Jaw, but it's costing gas stations about $1.16 to $1.17 per litre to replace it.

Dan McTeague, a senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy, said one of the only ways prices won't go up is if gas stations are content on making enough money selling items inside the store.

"It's unlikely that at $1.18 you're going to make ends meet," he said. "You're in the business of selling gasoline and at a $1.18 it's not likely that many gas stations are going to be able to remain at that level. I think there is a very good chance that we could see prices moving up about seven cents per litre, potentially to $1.25 and I say that is a likelihood, it's not a certainty."

According to McTeague, the prices currently at the pumps of $1.18 is because the gas stations bought that gas two weeks ago for about $1.11-$1.13 per litre.

McTeague added that October could be a volatile month for gas prices as there is some uncertainty around how much crude oil is available at the market.

"The U.S. blockade or embargo on Iranian oil means that the world is going to be scrambling for additional barrels of oil," he said. "Now OPEC (The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) says it can make up that amount, but that has yet to be proven and it's why oil has gone from $68 a barrel last month to $76 a day."
